Gold Canyon Soroptimists donate to groups that serve women, children

This month, we put smiles on the faces of those in need – with a focus on women and girls. And, we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks to the generosity of this community, Soroptimist International of Gold Canyon was able to donate a huge amount of much needed items to three organizations right here in Pinal County:

•Family Advocacy Center in San Tan Valley: This facility comes to the aid of children immediately following a harmful or life-threatening situation where they are removed from their home for their safety. Our members discovered that the center had no Christmas directions, so we donated some of our own – two SUVs filled with red and green. Our goal was to put smiles on the children’s faces during an extremely difficult time.
•Home of Hope in Casa Grande: This is a live-in facility that nurtures and teaches women who are recovering from addictions. Following your very generous donations of clothing during the month of November, SIGC loaded six vehicles to the max, making this a very special delivery. Home of Hope maintains an open-to-the-public boutique, turning our donations into cash for center operating expenses. A real blessing to them.

Soroptimist groups seeking Live Your Dream Award applicants

Perhaps you know of a deserving person – she will be a local woman who is the primary financial support for her family and is seeking further education by attending college or a vocational training program. She is on a determined path to better herself and her family. She also needs some help.

Soroptimist International’s Live Your Dream Award could be of assistance by helping in her efforts to attain higher education. Soroptimist International of Apache Junction and Soroptimist International of Gold Canyon are each seeking applicants for this year’s award. Two fortunate and deserving women will receive cash awards. Their compelling stories may also place them in competition for awards at Soroptimist International’s regional and national levels.

Applications are available on our local chapters’ websites. Forms may also be picked up at Central Arizona College, 273 Old West Highway in Apache Junction. The application consists of basic information and an essay that give the applicant an opportunity to share her story and explain why she deserves the award.
