Tee ball and coach pitch baseball play nears

Apache Junction Parks and Recreation is offering youth baseball leagues for boys and girls ages 4-8. There are two leagues available, tee ball and coach pitch.

Youth ages 4-5 will play tee ball 6-7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Youth ages 6-8 will play coach pitch 7-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and 9-10 a.m. Saturdays. Both baseball leagues will play at Prospector Park, 3015 N. Idaho Road in Apache Junction.

Registration fees are $40 for tee ball and $45 for coach pitch. There is a $5 per participant discount if registered by Aug. 6.

Volunteer coaches are needed for both leagues.

The leagues will kick off the season with a clinic Saturday, Aug. 8 at Prospector Park. The clinic for those registered in tee ball is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; the clinic for coach pitch is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The registration fee is $30.

Leagues will end the last week of September. No program will be held on Labor Day weekend.

In addition, the parks and recreation department is offering a parent/tot baseball program for youth ages 3-5. Participants must have turned 3 prior to the start of the program.

This program will take place 9-9:45 a.m. on Saturdays Aug. 22, 29, Sept. 12 and 19 at at Prospector Park. Parents actively work with their child under the direction of Coach Wes. The program is designed to prepare youth for team sports and prepare parents to become volunteer coaches.

Registration is limited to the first 20 participants.
