Apache Junction man dies in head-on car crash June 7


A vehicular accident Sunday, June 7, resulted in the death of an Apache Junction man.

At 4:10 p.m., the Apache Junction Police Department Motor Unit responded to a call regarding a vehicular accident that occurred on Southern Avenue about 150 yards east of Meridian Avenue in Apache Junction.

According to a press release issued June 8 by the police department, Andrew Edwards of Mesa, 26, was driving his 1994 Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on Southern when he drove into the oncoming westbound lane and struck head-on a 2013 Mazda 3i being driven by Jeffery Larson of Apache Junction, 36.

Mr. Larson received serious injuries and was transported to Mountain Vista Medical Center, 1301 S. Crismon Road in Mesa, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m. Mr. Edwards was transported to Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, 7400 E. Osborn Road in Scottsdale, where he is stable but in intensive care, according to police.

The accident is under investigation. No further information is available, according to police.
