William Carns: Just say no to new taxes at the ballot box Nov. 4

Taxpayers, the bottomless well. Just say no.

Our local governments are at it again. That includes school, water, city and county. Not one government official knows how to be thrifty, no less save. Why should they? They just turn on the tap and drain the taxpayers for anything they want. They each say it is just a little but together it is a lot.

The county raises its tax base (more of your money), the water district follows suit and has just raised your water rates (more of your money), Apache Junction is raising taxes again, making it one of the highest-tax cities in the state (more of your money) and the school district wants to hand out raises so they are now clamoring for a 15 percent rate increase on your property taxes.

The Apache Junction City Council is spending nearly $200,000 of your tax dollars to have someone tell them how to raise taxes so they can spend more taxes. Sounds foolish; it is, but welcome to Apache Junction.

Remember the old slogan “just say no” when talking about drugs? Well it applies to your tax dollars as well. Government’s addiction to a citizen’s hard-earned money is just like a drug – they never get enough. It will never stop or slow down unless we just say no at the ballot box on Nov. 4.
