Register by Nov. 19 for Apache Junction holiday parade, program entries


The city of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation will be host its annual Holiday Program and Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5. The event will take place in the downtown area on Old West Highway between Phelps Drive and Idaho Road. This event is free to the community.

There will be lots of activities throughout the day for the whole family including:

*LDM Winter Walk-A-Thon, noon-2 p.m.: Apache Junction nonprofit agencies get together members and supporters for a chance to win cash prizes. Pre-registration is required and the registration deadline is Nov. 19.

*Let It Snow, 3-6 p.m.: Join the city for this one-of-a-kind, free event for the whole family. There will be something for everyone: 40 tons of snow, a visit by Santa Claus, bounce house, climbing rock wall, an obstacle course and petting zoo. Local entertainment will be provided.

*The 19th Annual Holiday Light Parade, 7 p.m.: Individuals, businesses, nonprofit agencies and groups are welcome to enter their floats. Pre-registration is required and the registration deadline is Nov. 19.

*Holiday booth space: Promote a local business or  nonprofit agency during activities geared for the whole family, including kicking off  holiday deals and give out samples and coupons. There is no charge for business located in the city limits. Booths for businesses and organizations outside the city limits will pay a $25/space booth fee and any fees associated with the required  event licensing.

*Road closures: Old West Highway will be shut down between Phelps Drive and Idaho Road from 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for the overall event. Apache Trail (Old West Highway) will be shut down 5:30-8:30 p.m. between Phelps Drive and Ironwood Road for the Light Parade.
