In recognition of May being Bicycle Safety Awareness Month, the Apache Junction Police Department will be hosting Bike Safety Day from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 16, at the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation parking lot, 1001 N. Idaho Road.

Free helmets will be given to the first 50 kids at this free family event, according to a press release. Activities include bike obstacle courses, maneuver demonstrations by the AJPD motor officers, a Helmet Your Head demonstration and a children’s bike giveaway.

People may bring their bikes and have fun interacting with the bike and motor officers of AJPD while also learning valuable information about staying safe while riding one’s bike.

For information, call the AJPD community resource coordinator at 480-474-5442 or e-mail her at scarney@ajcity.net.

The Apache Junction Independent is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
