Four area youth will be receiving free horse riding lessons after winning an essay contest sponsored by the Apache Junction Mounted Rangers.

“We do this for the Kids of Apache Junction and to further the Western way of life,” Joan Felkner, public relations officer for the organization, said in a press release. “This is one of the ways we give to the kids of Apache Junction. It’s about the kids. The duties we do and the money we make from them goes to the kids of Apache Junction.”

The next winners of the twice-yearly essay contest will be chosen in December for lessons to start in January.
