Apache Junction honors area military veterans with parade

The city of Apache Junction hosted its annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 in downtown AJ. There were 54 entries and about 2,000 people lined the streets to watch the procession of floats, marching bands, organizations and military veterans, according to city officials. This year’s theme was Honoring Purple Heart Veterans. The grand marshal was Dr. Robert Dole, a World War II Purple Heart veteran. He entered the U.S. Army in August 1944 and eventually landed in France where he was with the 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Division, 7th Army. He was wounded in the battle for Manheim, Germany, on March 29, 1945. He received several awards and medals in addition to the Purple Heart.
