The following events are at the Apache Junction Public Library Branch at 1177 N. Idaho Road, Apache Junction. The library is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Library closed May 23-25
The library will be closed on Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
Back to the ‘80s
The library will be featuring a 1980s themed afternoon, 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. It will feature a green screen photo booth, an ‘80s food tasting, DIY slap bracelets, spin art and an ‘80s dress contest with prizes. Make sure to check out the phone booth from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.”

Baby Signs
Baby Signs is for ages 5 and under, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 13, 20 and 27. This event will feature baby signs, songs, socialization, books and fun. For more information call the library at 480-474-8555.
Summer reading
The summer reading program will begin on May 26 with a kick-off day featuring events for all ages. Child ID/Fingerprinting will be 10 a.m.-noon; radical reptiles is 11:30-12:30 p.m.; family photo booth will be available 10-11:30 a.m.; additional fun activities will be ongoing until 1 p.m. The program runs from May 26-July 25. There are three categories: kids, 17 and under; teens 12-17; and adults 18 and older. For more information call the library at 480-474-8555.
Splash Water Play
The Splash Water Play event will be  9:30-10:15 a.m. for infants-age 2, or 10:30-11:15 a.m. for ages 3-5, on Thursday May 7. Children should wear swimsuits and bring towels and sunscreen. For more information call the library at 480-474-8555.
Writer’s Open Read
The May open read for adults will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. The theme will be flowers and garden. No registration necessary. For more information call the library at 480-474-8555.
Engraved tile project
Friends of the Library of Apache Junction has an engraved tile project allowing anyone to have a tile engraved and affixed to a pillar at the front of the library. Cost starts at $50 and another $25 for each additional line and picture.
Story times
The library hosts multiple story time events on Thursday mornings.
“Babytime” is for children ages birth to 2 years old and meets at 9:30 a.m.
“Toddlertime” is for kids ages 2-3 and meets at 10:15 a.m.
“Storytime” is for children ages 4-5 and meets at 11 a.m. For more information, visit
Attend museums for free
The Apache Junction Public Library offers its members Culture Passes that grant two free admissions to participating local museums.
Library members can check out the passes from a display at the circulation desk. The passes come with a due date receipt and are good for seven days.
The Culture Pass gives members a chance to visit places like Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Science Center and Superstition Mountain Museum free of charge.
The library has a limited number of Culture Passes available to check out. The institutions collect the passes and there is no need to return anything to the library.

Fun Van literacy
Bring a child between the ages of 0 and 5 to participate with Fun Van, a mobile literacy and interactive development program.
Aimed at supporting parents in their role as a child’s first and most important teacher, the program includes free play time, a parent session, story time, snacks, songs and a free book.
The Fun Van is at the Apache Junction Public Library at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday as well as 5 p.m. every Tuesday.
The van also makes a trip at 9:30 a.m. every Thursday to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 5301 S. Kings Ranch Road in Gold Canyon. For more information and to register, call 480-474-8559.

Join Miss Alana for storytelling 10-11 a.m. on Mondays in the Cozy Books. No registration required.
Friends of the library
All library programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Apache Junction. The group accepts donations of gently-used materials which may be placed on the picnic table in the donation drop-off area near the old entrance.
Funds are generated by operation of the used book store, Chapter Two, in the library and through membership dues, gifts, endowments, memorials and grants.
Wild West Crochet Club
The Wild West Crochet Club meets 1-4 p.m. every Saturday. Visit and create something with fellow crochet enthusiasts. Guests must bring their own materials.
Apache Junction writers
This writing group meets 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Share writing talents, brainstorm ideas and share creativity in a comfortable atmosphere.
