Arizona Black Rodeo rides into Chandler for weekend competition

The Rawhide, 5700 W. North Loop Road in Chandler, played host Saturday, March 9 to the Arizona Black Rodeo, a national African-American rodeo competition.

The events at the rodeo included bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, ladies barrel racing, ladies steer undecorating and relay races. The competition was broken up into two sessions: an afternoon session and an evening session.

The Arizona Black Rodeo Committee puts on the annual event. The committee, according to the event’s website, is “committed to keeping the contributions of African-American western heritage alive by offering a fun, family-oriented event for residents and visitors alike.

The Apache Junction Independent publishes a daily newsletter and website. A print edition is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
