Halloween is quickly approaching and the city of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation will be hosting our annual Halloween Festival from  5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. There has been a change of venue this year as the festival shifts from Prospector Park to its new location at the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center and Park at 1035 N. Idaho Road.

This free community event is moving this year in order to provide citizens with a more centralized location as well as to take advantage of being located next to the Apache Junction Public Library. This year, the library will be hosting a Harry Potter Halloween event that features potions, butter beer and a craft. A trick or treat scavenger hunt for kids up to age 14 will take place as well as a Slytherin Snake Emporium where kids can take home a toy snake of their own. This will all take place before the Halloween Festival from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There will be lots of activities throughout the night for the whole family at the Halloween Festival including a costume contest and a pre-carved pumpkin contest at 6 p.m., bounce houses, kids games, a petting zoo, emergency vehicle display, safety information and the Howl-o-ween Canine Costume Contest at 7 p.m. All participants will be required to fill out a registration form prior to his or her contest.

Local nonprofit organizations and businesses will be on-site selling food and providing games for the kids. Food and games will be available free of charge or for a small fee.

In the event of bad weather, this event will be moved inside the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center.
