Water distributed to Apache Junction elementary students

Aging buses in the Apache Junction Unified School District have aging air-conditioning units and doors that open and close frequently as students get off at their stops. With temperatures soaring and heat advisories telling everyone to “stay hydrated,” AJUSD elementary schools opted to distribute bottles of water to all bus-riding students who did not have their own and to encourage students who had their own water bottles to fill them before leaving the classroom, according to a press release by school district spokeswoman Dana Hawman.

The Apache Junction Independent is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
