Save Our Schools group in Apache Junction to meet April 28

The next meeting of the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Save Our Schools community group will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, on the campus of Central Arizona College, 273 E. Old West Highway in room B126.
The focus of this meeting will be to assess the group’s petition-gathering efforts and to begin planning the next steps for starting a campaign to pass a ballot issue to locally fund our schools, according to a press release.
All community members with an interest in the schools in the Apache Junction Unified School District are welcome to attend and join in the discussion of how group members can support AJUSD schools and how to avoid future cuts in the students’ futures.
Members of the group have been out in the community the last several weeks gathering signatures on a petition to request that the AJUSD governing board call for a special budget override election in the fall to locally fund schools in the 2016-17 school year.
Voters rejected an override in November that would have made up the $2.7 million shortfall for the 2015-16 school year.
People who would like to sign the petition may do so at the meeting.
