The Apache Junction Junction Parks and Recreation Department and Apache Junction High School are teaming for a walk/run series that will benefit the AJHS swim team.

This event — which begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4 with check ins starting at 8 a.m. — is part of an ongoing series that donates proceeds to various AJHS athletic programs.

Each event starts and ends in the parking lot of the Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center, 1091 W. Southern Ave. Participants have the choice of doing either two or three miles and will receive a medal upon finishing.

Unique to this month’s event is participants can water slide into the finish line. It costs adults $20 to participate and students $10. All of the participation fees go to the swim team.

Those interested can pre-register on the city’s website or register the morning of the event. Youth must have a parent fill out a registration form in order to participate.

The Apache Junction Independent publishes a daily newsletter and website. A print edition is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
