Apache Junction school district assistant superintendent Cruz takes job in Phoenix

Dr. Jennifer Cruz (AJUSD)

Dr. Jennifer Cruz, Apache Junction Unified School District assistant superintendent, will be leaving the district in mid-June.

She has accepted a position as the chief academic officer in Pendergast Elementary School District in Phoenix.

“I have mixed emotions about this change because I have truly enjoyed serving the AJUSD community,” Dr. Cruz says in the March 2019 AJUSD employee newsletter.

“This system truly is a family. This new opportunity will allow me to focus on K-8 instruction where I began my career in education,” she said.

Dr. Cruz, on May 1, 2018, was issued a 260-day contract with AJUSD to be paid $110,000 as a full-time-equivalent employee. She was hired July 10, 2017, according to the contract.

The Apache Junction Independent publishes a daily newsletter and website. A print edition is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
