Freeway-improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (July 10-13). The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers plan ahead, consider alternate routes or adjust travel schedules and use caution in work zones while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Alma School Road and Loop 101 in Mesa from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday (July 11) for overhead sign work. Consider alternate routes, including US 60 (Superstition Freeway) or McKellips Road.
  • Grand Avenue (US 60) closed in both directions between Loop 303 and R.H. Johnson/Sunrise boulevards in Surprise from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (July 13) for bridge construction. Allow extra travel time. Traffic will primarily detour on Loop 303 and Bell Road. Heavy traffic can be expected in the area.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 (toward Phoenix) narrowed to one lane between Riggs Road and Wild Horse Pass Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday (July 11) for rubberized asphalt paving. Allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely in work zone.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) narrowed to three lanes between Loop 101 and Dobson Road from 11:30 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (July 11) for sign structure work. Use caution in work zone.
  • Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed at Indian Bend Road from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (July 12) for widening project. Northbound on-ramp at McDonald Drive closed. Southbound Loop 101 HOV lane also closed in the area. Northbound Loop 101 will detour along the off- and on-ramps at Indian Bend Road. Please allow extra travel time. Please note: Loop 101 on- and off-ramps at Indian Bend Road closed for approximately two months starting early Monday morning (by 5 a.m.) for reconstruction work.
  • Alma School Road closed in both directions at Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in Mesa from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday (July 11) for bridge work. Consider using McKellips Road or Country Club Drive as alternate routes. Westbound Loop 202 on- and off-ramps and eastbound off-ramp at Alma School Road closed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (July 11) for widening project.

ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region. The primary funding source for regional freeway improvements is a half-cent sales tax approved by county voters in 2004. More information about ADOT projects and the regional plan is available at azdot.gov/PhoenixMetro.
