In reference to the sales tax to eat and repair the Apache Junction roads: What about the winter visitor/residents’ road use? They are allowed by the Arizona state licensing department and emissions enforcement department to stay here for seven months and drive around all day, to use vehicles from other countries such as Canada and states that have no emission tests, cost and much lower license fees that Arizona.
No amount of road fuel tax they pay will ever pay for the wear and tear their larger vehicles do to the roads. Clean air fees? Never; we pay extra in emission tests and licenses to also clean the air.
What if our esteemed city rulers were to enact a yearly seven-month window decal that had a road-use tax for the city of Apache Junction winter out-of-state licensed vehicles, such as $150? Application could be printed in the local free Independent. And last, but not least, our local Barney Fifes could also carry applications to the local hangouts, with a ticket on the windshield if no decal; $150 fine or get decal and waive the fine.
Now you know the winter visitors/residents will never eat enough to repair the roads. It’s silly to think so? I voted for Obama, so I am probably a freeloader too. Don’t pay my fair share, eat small meals, etc.
