Do not let the Arizona Department of Transportation get away with painting the Meridian overpass black and red. This is a poor design and lacks the foresight needed for our community.
As I drive down the 101 north to Scottsdale I see miles of decorative ADOT construction that cost millions of our dollars and not a black wall or overpass in sight. I would venture to say this is the only black overpass in our state.
Did all the ADOT money for paint get spent on the multi-colored panel on the Scottsdale corridor leaving us with the leftovers?
Our city leaders need to contact ADOT, Mesa and all concerned parties that have a vested interest to see if we can get this repainted to something that looks like it was not designed by a 10-year-old. Even the construction crews working on the overpass are so embarrassed that they mound it with dirt to lessen the ugliness best they could.
With the billions of dollars that are being spent on the Apple Data Center and the support companies that will be moving into the area, this is not the image that we want to portray to our potential tax base, not to mention the tourist industry associated to the area. I see this as poor planning and poor development for our area. Someone at ADOT needs to be held accountable as this is now a blight on our community.
