I have a daughter who has been enrolled in the Apache Junction School District since kindergarten. She is currently a junior at the Apache Junction High School.
Over the years I have experienced a lot in the district as a parent and volunteer. I have been involved with all the school’s PTOs and I am currently a band parent volunteer and booster club member. Over time I have seen enrollment go up but teachers leave the district for higher salaries and better benefits. I have witnessed teacher and staff layoffs and two school closures.
The main reason is due to budget cuts. I am a very active volunteer because the district can’t afford to buy needed items and there are a lot of things that need to be repaired throughout the schools.
If the override on November’s ballot passed maybe teachers could stop spending their own money on their students, maybe teachers would not only stay in the district, but they would be able to keep programs like band, choir, sports, etc. As a parent I am all for the override as it would not only help with salaries but it would benefit our kids too. They would have the necessities needed in their classrooms.
