Apache Junction Halloween Festival/13th Annual Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods: 5-8 p.m. This year’s event will take place in front of the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center, 1035 N. Idaho Road. Presented by AJ Parks and Recreation. This event is free to the community and is offered as a safe alternative to the traditional neighborhood trick or treating. Activities include a costume contest, pumpkin-carving contest, bounce houses, kids’ games, a petting zoo, a K-9 demo, emergency vehicle display, safety information and the Howl-o-ween Canine Costume Contest. The K-9 demonstration will begin at 5:30 p.m. The annual costume contest will begin at 6 p.m. and will be divided by age groups. All ages are welcome to enter. All participants will be required to fill out a registration form prior to the contest. Pre-carved pumpkins will be accepted for the annual pumpkin-carving contest. Entries will be judged in four categories: funniest, scariest, best overall and most original. All pumpkins must be submitted to the judging table by 6 p.m. to be eligible to win. Winners will be announced after the costume contest. To be eligible for the Howl-o-ween Canine Costume Contest, all canines must be on a leash and their owner must have completed an entry form. This contest will begin at 7 p.m. Categories include: cutest, funniest, most original and best group (dog and owner). For more information, call parks and rec at 480-983-2181.
