A monsoon storm hit the far south East Valley at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.11.
The storm came in with a large wall of dust, followed by lightning and thunder. About 11,000 people—mostly residents in Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, Apache Junction and Chandler—were without power, according to Scott Harelson of Salt River Project.
The storm knocked down trees in many of the communities. William Carr of Circle Cross Ranch in San Tan Valley had his neighbor’s tree fall across his driveway.
David Aguilar, another San Tan Valley resident, said the wind blew dents into his garage door and he had to knock them out before the door would open. As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.12, SRP had restored power to all but 126 of it’s customers, according to SRP.
Pinal County Public Works will be out cleaning up sand in street dips throughout the San Tan Valley area.
