“We are seeing a number of showers and thunderstorms popping up particularly in Gila and Pinal counties,” according to the NWS area forecast discussion filed at 9:31 a.m. Friday, July 17. “Still on track with the weekend forecast with extensive shower activity expected in tandem with our flash flood watch in effect until 11 p.m. (Saturday). Keeping a close metwatch for potential of any storms to blow up today to include typical hazards of localized flooding and dust. Also seeing some gusty southerly winds in the lower (Colorado) River Valley this morning so that raises some thought to possibility of blowing dust across the region. Big question remains for the weekend of where – and when – we might see flash flooding. A lot depends on short term breaks in the overcast that could increase instability. For the duration of the weekend we will maintain a close watch on conditions.”
